Thousand Oaks : Deputies to Set Up Driver Checkpoints
Ventura County sheriff’s deputies are planning to set up sobriety checkpoints in Thousand Oaks tonight to question motorists suspected of drinking and driving.
Sheriff’s Sgt. Will Howe said at least two checkpoints will be set up beginning at 8 p.m. on Hillcrest Drive near Conejo Boulevard and on Thousand Oaks Boulevard in Westlake.
Other checkpoints may be set up in other parts of the city, he added.
Volunteers from Mothers Against Drunk Driving will be on hand to assist officers.
Deputies have arrested 11 drivers on suspicion of drunken driving since the Sheriff’s Department began checking motorists in June.
Officers stopped about 3,000 cars at three previous checkpoints.
Howe said deputies will probably set up two more checkpoints during the upcoming holiday season.
