THE WOODLANDS, Tex. — Jeff Maggert and Steve Jones completed their weather-delayed first rounds with seven-under-par 65s Thursday, joining Robert Wrenn to share the lead in the Independent Insurance Agent Open.
Wrenn completed his round Wednesday before morning fog and afternoon lightning stopped play. The second round will be played today and the $800,000 event, originally scheduled to end Saturday, will conclude Sunday.
Maggert played five holes Wednesday and had teed off on No. 6 when lightning stopped play. He returned to No. 6 Thursday, hit a six-iron within eight feet and sank the putt for a birdie.
Maggert went eight under with three holes to play Thursday, but he three-putted the final hole of the day to fall into the tie. Jones got in three holes on Wednesday, finishing with a 15-foot birdie and started off Thursday with two more birdies.
Rookie Dicky Thompson was on the final green when play was stopped Wednesday. He returned with only his putter and two-putted for a six-under-par 66.
