Boys Who Threw Rock From Overpass Are Guilty in Man’s Death
EAU CLAIRE, Wis. — A 15-year-old pleaded guilty to reduced charges Thursday in the death of a man who was killed when a 35-pound rock was tossed from a highway overpass.
A 16-year-old boy was found guilty by a jury Wednesday of another reduced charge in the case.
Both teen-agers had been charged as juveniles with first-degree reckless homicide in the July 22 death of Maynard Bloomer, 56, of New Brighton, Minn. Bloomer died when the rock crashed through the windshield of his motor home and struck him.
The 16-year-old was convicted of the juvenile equivalent of negligent homicide. The 15-year-old agreed to plead guilty to second-degree reckless homicide and second-degree recklessly endangering safety.
The 15-year-old could be sentenced to supervision until age 19. The 16-year-old faces a maximum two years of supervision.
