Christopher Columbus
In view of the demonstrations against any tribute to Columbus, let us first remember that he was an expert sailor and a daring businessman. What we are witnessing now is a fractural movement of ethnic groups and subgroups all claiming and clamoring for recognition.
Having seen very recently a pasted-up empire of 70 years dissolved in roughly 70 hours by people who wanted to go back to their ethnic identities, religions, economic independence and their roots, I just wonder whether in October, 1992, we will have any “united†States left to celebrate.
