Illegal Immigrants: Unwelcome In Orange, Yet Necessary

In reference to the editorial “The Most Objective Judge?†(Oct. 2) about the U.S. Border Patrol’s internal investigation of allegations of agency abuses in an Orange immigration raid: This is like putting the fox in the chicken coop and suggesting that the fox is there to protect the poor chickens!

Having lived and worked in the city of Orange many years ago, I distinctively remember that the city has always been biased against the poor undocumented worker. The City Council members are all staunch, conservative Republicans, and it leads one to believe that the Republican Party must also be biased against the poor undocumented worker, and therefore anti-Chicano.

I recommend that Mayor Pro Tem Fred Barrera join people of Chicano roots to stop the raids in our communities; otherwise, he will find himself voted out of office as it happened to former Mayor Jess Perez, when he denied the Chicano people his help about this same issue.
