Kidnap Suspect Barricades Self in Acton Home
A man wanted for kidnaping in Washington state barricaded himself in his Acton home Thursday when Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies tried to arrest him, authorities said.
John Logan Capps locked himself in his house at Cory Avenue and 3rd Street about 2:45 p.m., Sheriff’s Deputy Mary Landreth said. Capps is about 40 years old and was thought to be well armed, she said. He was not holding any hostages, she added.
A SWAT team surrounded the house and blocked off a four-square-block area, ordering residents to stay in their homes.
Capps is wanted in connection with the kidnaping of his wife and two small children earlier this month from an unspecified city in Washington, Landreth said.
Deputies tried unsuccessfully to establish phone contact with Capps.
A neighbor, Steve Cox, said Capps moved into the neighborhood only a few weeks ago with two small boys, ages 2 and 3, and said he was a former sheriff’s deputy from Oregon. Cox said the man told him that the boys were his sons and that his wife had died.
It was not clear where Capps’ wife or the boys were, Landreth said.
