Beilstein Makes the Team at UCLA

Point guard David Beilstein, who led Tustin High School to the State Division II boys’ basketball championship last spring, has earned a berth on UCLA’s 15-man squad as a walk-on, according to Tustin Coach Tom McCluskey.
Beilstein, a three-year starter at Tustin--where he set single-game, season and career scoring records--averaged 21.3 points and five assists as a senior.
Beilstein was an honor student at Tustin, and he repeatedly said he would not continue playing basketball in college in order to concentrate on academics.
“I’ve had a verbal agreement with Coach (Jim) Harrick that he’s one of the 15 players on the team,” McCluskey said. “It’s going to take David a period of adjustment, but he’s played against some of these guys before. I think he’ll adjust.”
