TV’s Mirror on Life

Regarding “TV Adjusts Its Mirror,” by Judith Michaelson (Sept. 22):
Perhaps television shows are changing to a certain degree, but the advertising on television has not changed. African-Americans who are not famous athletes or celebrities are rarely seen in commercials.
A handful of shows do not equal the thousands of commercials aired on television daily. If we are to have real changes, we need to integrate the commercials as well as the TV shows.
I think it is a good sign that television is taking a step toward combating racism, but it is only the first step in a long journey toward equality.
