GARDEN GROVE : City OKs Formation of Citizen Panel

The City Council this week approved the formation of an ad hoc citizen’s committee to review the city’s budget and finances.
The Garden Grove Citizen’s Committee on Government Efficiency will review city expenditures and services before the adoption of next year’s budget. They will make cost-saving proposals to the City Council and staff in a report to be completed by next May.
“Some of the things this committee will be doing are really our job but I think we could probably use a little help,” said Councilman Mark Leyes, who proposed the formation of the committee.
The committee is modeled after the Grace Commission, a committee of business leaders who were appointed by President Ronald Reagan in 1984 to examine federal government efficiency, Leyes said.
The committee will be established by Nov. 1. It will consist of seven members who will be appointed by Mayor W.E. (Walt) Donovan.
