Agoura Hills to Re-Enact Pony Express Service
- Share via
The original Pony Express never stopped in Agoura Hills, but modern horsemen will re-create the service’s famous mail delivery at the city’s 25th annual Pony Express Days celebration this weekend.
A highlight of the community carnival and rodeo, which runs today through Sunday, will be a fast-paced re-enactment of Pony Express mail pickups. Horseback riders will pick up bags of real mail along Thousand Oaks Boulevard and take them to a modern post office for delivery, organizer Connie Raabe said.
This year’s event is expected to attract more people than in the past, perhaps 6,000, because a new location on Canwood Street near the Ventura Freeway will make it easier to find, Raabe said.
The carnival opens today at 5 p.m. and runs through Sunday at 8 p.m. Admission is $7 for adults and $5 for children and senior citizens.
