Back together: What do the following people have in common: Southern Section Commissioner Stan Thomas, Palm Desert High assistant football coach Ted Mullen and UCLA linebacker Ward Van Pelt?
All were at Foothill High School when the Knights won the 1981 CIF football championship. Thomas was the principal, Mullen the head coach and Van Pelt a ball boy.
The school is holding a reunion--Oct. 17 during the Foothill-Santa Ana Valley game at Tustin High School--for all players, coaches, administrators, managers and--yes--ball boys on that ’81 team.
The game starts at 7:30 p.m., but reunion participants--who will be admitted to the game free--are encouraged to arrive at 6:30. And wear your game jersey and/or letterman’s jacket.
