GTE Plans to Divest Electrical Products Unit: Thirty-two years after General Telephone merged with Sylvania Electric Products to form GTE, it hopes to go back to its roots. GTE Corp. said it is exploring ways to break from its electronics business so it can concentrate on telecommunications. GTE is evaluating various options for its profitable Electrical Products Group, including selling it, creating a separate, publicly traded company or working out a joint venture. The Electrical Products Group, based in Danvers, Mass., makes such products as Sylvania light bulbs.
