VENTURA : Mystery Surrounds Shooting of Youth
An 18-year-old Ventura youth was shot with a single bullet that struck his arm and lower right torso Sunday afternoon, but police say there is some confusion about where it occurred and whether it was a drive-by shooting.
The victim, Patrick Kelly, is in good condition at Ventura County Medical Center, a nursing supervisor said.
Police received a call at 5:16 p.m. about a shooting at Todd Ranch, a large apartment complex at Ramelli Avenue and Telephone Road, Ventura Police Sgt. Gary Moore said.
When officers arrived at the scene, there was no sign of a victim or a suspect, Moore said.
Two children told police that they witnessed a man get shot, Moore said.
Police called Ventura County Medical Center about 5:35 p.m. to warn them to watch for a shooting victim, and were told “he had just walked in,†Moore said.
Kelly told police that he was walking near Bristol Road in Montalvo when he was shot in the arm, Moore said.
But Moore said police think Kelly was the shooting victim at Todd Ranch because he was wearing “distinctive, bluish-gray shorts†described by witnesses there.
Moore said police are unsure if the shooting was gang-related.
