EL RIO : Cul-De-Sac May Get Angled Parking

An urban solution to a parking shortage may be tried for the first time in an unincorporated area of Ventura County, as the Board of Supervisors considers a plan Tuesday to bring angled parking to El Rio.

Under the proposal, cars would park at a 90-degree angle to the curb on a one-block segment of North South Bank Road off Lambert Street that ends in a cul-de-sac.

Parking has been in short supply on the street because of the operations of Food Share, a nonprofit agency that packages surplus food for distribution to the needy, said Bob Brownie of the county’s Public Works Agency.

Up to 500 volunteers, many of them elderly, visit the offices of Food Share each week, Brownie said.

If approved, the angled parking would be permitted only so long as the street remains a cul-de-sac, he added.
