Mira Mesa 34, Las Vegas Chapparal 21--Senior quarterback Chad Davis threw five touchdown passes in the first half to lead Mira Mesa (2-1) at Chapparal (2-2). Davis and Mira Mesa, however, were shut out in the second half, leaving Davis tied with 15 others for second in touchdown passes in a game. Mike Reinback of Granite Hills holds the section record with six in a 1966 game against Mt. Miguel. Davis completed 22 of 39 passes for 303 yards. Running back David Lynch had 71 yards rushing in 10 carries.

Las Vegas Rancho 30, Chula Vista 10--Rancho, which lost to Point Loma, 34-14, last week in San Diego, handed Chula Vista (1-2) its second consecutive lopsided loss. Rancho improved to 3-1.

Monte Vista 33, El Cajon Valley 6--Junior running back Rickey Berrian rushed 10 times for 84 yards, most of those coming on three touchdowns runs of three, one and 63 yards for Monte Vista (2-1). Monarch quarterback John Acosta was eight of 10 for 187 yards, including a 68-yard touchdown pass to Robert Adside. Shawn McClendon caught four passes for 66 yards.

San Marcos 13, Poway 8--Mark Frazier gained 143 yards in 23 carries to lead San Marcos (2-1) over winless Poway. Chaise Bivin completed six of 10 passes for 106 yards. Denny McAdams caught three of them for 81 yards. Curt Gallego had 18 tackles for the ninth-ranked Knights. Poway quarterback Matt Housand, making his first start, completed six of 13 for 102 yards.

Torrey Pines 35, Ramona 12--Tom Luginbill scored three touchdowns on runs of one and 10 yards and a 20-yard pass from Mike Fouts to lead Torrey Pines (2-1) over visiting Ramona (0-3). Falcon running back Josh Stern gained 61 yards in 12 carries, and John Allred caught four passes for 64 yards.

USDHS 35, Mt. Carmel 10--Chris Lewis had a huge night and the seventh-ranked Dons (3-0) cruised past Mt. Carmel (0-3). Lewis rushed for 222 yards in 33 carries and scored four touchdowns. USDHS quarterback Mike Sexton completed seven of 11 passes for 161 yards, including a 42-yard scoring pass to Mike Hall. The Dons’ defense held Mt. Carmel to 175 total yards.

Carlsbad 23, San Dieguito 17--Brian Byrne completed 11 of 18 passes for 200 yards and three touchdowns to lead Carlsbad (2-1). David Kozlowski was his main receiver--he hauled in five passes for 122 yards and two touchdowns.

Fallbrook 20, Oceanside 17--Fallbrook’s Tony Burton carried 17 times for 70 yards and one touchdown and quarterback John Dutton completed only six of 25 passes but threw for 81 yards and a touchdown.

Fallbrook’s defense came up with two interceptions, one by Craig Person, who returned it 72 yards for a touchdown, and the other by Memo Acevedo.

Fallbrook improved to 2-1, and San Dieguito fell to 2-1.

La Jolla 26, Castle Park 12--The visiting Vikings (3-0), who trailed, 6-0, at halftime, scored 19 points in the third quarter and broke a 12-12 tie with two interceptions for touchdowns. Running back E.J. Watson tied the game on a 6-yard halfback pass to John Zuanich. Then Zuanich and Watson had 41- and 50-yard interception returns to win it. Watson rushed for 142 yards on 17 carries as Castle Park slipped to 1-2.

Temecula Valley 17, Escondido 16--Escondido (1-2) had leads of 10-0 and 16-10 before Temecula scored the winning touchdown on a 6-yard pass from Joe Gessel to Spencer Aiken with three minutes left. A 36-yard field goal attempt by the Cougars with 11 seconds left failed because of a bad snap. Brian Elliott had an 85-yard scoring punt return and Lance Lawton rushed for 112 yards on 16 carries for Escondido.

Southwest 17, Lincoln 6--Southwest scored 10 fourth-quarter points and iced the game when running back Riley Washington broke two tackles and scored on a 97-yard run with three minutes remaining. Washington had 168 yards and two touchdowns on 14 carries. Both teams are 1-2.

Brentwood 47, Francis Parker 24--Quarterback Jono Ohlgren scored the first of his four touchdowns--a 79-yard scramble--on Brentwood’s third play from scrimmage to lead the Eagles (3-0) past visiting Francis Parker (2-1). Lancer quarterback Matt Garrett completed 21 of 42 passes for 220 yards and two touchdowns, but he was also intercepted five times, four by safety Mike Green. Parker’s Charles Pope caught seven passes for 84 yards and one touchdown.

Julian 38, Bishop’s 13--Anthony Howard ran wild, scoring touchdowns on runs of six, four, 63 and 20 yards as Julian improved to 2-1. Angel Flores rushed for the other two scores, from one and four yards out. Bishop’s, which led, 7-6, after the first quarter, fell to 1-2.
