PREP ROUNDUP : Laguna Beach Wins in Volleyball

Shauna Shapiro had 62 assists and 13 digs and Laguna Beach, ranked No. 1 in Orange County, defeated No. 3 El Toro Thursday in a nonleague girls’ volleyball match at Laguna Beach.
Rachel Wacholder had 31 kills and 17 digs and Tori Scott had 27 kills and 11 digs for Laguna Beach (7-0), which won, 15-7, 2-15, 15-9, 11-15, 15-1.
In other nonleague girls’ volleyball:
Capistrano Valley 3, University 2--Allyson Carpenter had 21 kills and Vanessa Schweinberg added 18 for the Cougars (5-2) at Capistrano Valley. Setter Jessica Lee had 79 assists for Capistrano Valley.
Valencia 3, Esperanza 1--Amy Tamblyn had 20 kills and Brandy Smerko added 14 for Valencia (3-0).
In Sunset League girls’ volleyball:
Marina 3, Huntington Beach 2--Jayme Wehan had 19 kills and Tricia Rossman had 51 assists for Marina (2-3, 1-1). Tera Walker had 22 kills for host Huntington Beach (2-3, 1-1).
In the South Coast water polo tournament:
Tustin 11, Costa Mesa 8--Jeremy Yorba scored six goals for the Tillers in the second round. Tustin, ranked No. 4 in the county, took a 5-0 lead in the first quarter. Costa Mesa (4-2) cut the deficit to 7-6 after three quarters. In the first round, Costa Mesa defeated No. 10 Los Alamitos, 9-5, and Tustin beat Mira Costa, 10-2.
Newport Harbor 7, Marina 4--Joe Haxel scored three goals and Kip Parsons had seven saves for the fifth-ranked Sailors (3-1). Steve Andrusky had three goals and Eric Goodwin had nine saves for Marina (5-3).
In the La Serna water polo tournament:
Fountain Valley 16, Los Altos 2--Ofer Horn scored seven goals for the Barons (8-2) in the first round. A second-round game between Fountain Valley and Loyola was called because of lightning at the end of the first quarter with Loyola leading, 2-1. The game will resume at 2:30 p.m. today at La Serna High School.
La Habra 12, Indio 6--Scott Seminoff had five goals for La Habra (8-0), bringing his season total to 52. Richard Puliselich also had five goals for La Habra.
