Temporary Rate Cut Announced by DWP

Customers of the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power will get a short-term 20% reduction in their water rates, effective Oct. 1, for good conservation efforts during the drought this year, the DWP said Wednesday.
James F. Wickser, DWP assistant general manager for water, said that because of conservation the district does not have an immediate need to purchase water from the Metropolitan Water District, so the savings can be passed on.
According to DWP resources engineer Jerry Gewe, the rate reduction means that DWP customers who normally pay about $30 a month for water at summertime rates should save about $9 per month.
