San Dimas : Student Seeks Tabloid Ban

A 16-year-old high school student has urged city officials to prohibit the display of sexually explicit material in news racks in front of the post office.
Randy Wiser, a ninth-grader at San Dimas High School, told the City Council on Tuesday that he was concerned that children walking by the post office at Bonita and Walnut avenues might buy the tabloids.
City Atty. J. Kenneth Brown said the city cannot force owners to remove the racks because that would violate their public rights of way.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department will investigate to see if the material violates a state law prohibiting sale of erotic material to people under 18.
In August, 1990, Wiser succeeded in getting the council to pass an ordinance requiring businesses to install magazine racks that partially hide erotic material from view.
