MIRA MONTE : Boy, 6, Rescued From Pool Bottom

A 6-year-old Mira Monte boy was rescued by his mother after she found him unconscious at the bottom of an apartment house pool Sunday, a Ventura County fire official said.
Claira Valdez told rescue crews that she pulled her son, Javier, out of the water and revived him by using mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, county Fire Engineer Bill Cundiff said.
A emergency room supervisor at Ojai Valley Community Hospital said the boy was conscious and in good condition about an hour after his near-drowning.
Cundiff said he did not know whether the boy, who had a small bump on his head, accidentally fell in the pool or was playing in it. Paramedic Stephen Frank, who responded to the mother’s call at 5:12 p.m., said the boy was probably under water no more than four minutes.
Valdez said her son had been playing in the six-foot-deep pool earlier in the day, said Frank, president of Ojai Ambulance Service. The boy slipped into the gated swimming pool while his mother was not watching, Frank said.
