WORLD IN BRIEF : INDIA : 16 Reported Killed in Border Gun Battle

Pakistani troops attacked an Indian border post on the disputed frontier between the two countries. An Indian government spokesman said 16 people were killed in the gun battle. More than 100 Pakistani soldiers were involved in the attack along the cease-fire line in the disputed state of Jammu-Kashmir, the spokesman said. Pakistan acknowledged that there was shooting across the frontier but said it had no reports of casualties.
