Pacific Gas and Electric Co. on Wednesday named Stanley T. Skinner president and chief operating officer to succeed George A. Maneatis, 64, who will retire Nov. 1. Skinner, 54, is now vice chairman of the board and chief financial officer.

Additionally, in what the utility described as an effort to broaden the company’s management team, PG&E;’s board also promoted several other ranking officers and realigned several executive assignments:

James D. Shiffer, senior vice president and general manager of the Nuclear Power Generation Business Unit, was named executive vice president; Robert D. Glynn Jr., vice president of power generation, was promoted to senior vice president and general manager of the Electric Supply Business Unit; Benjamin F. Montoya, vice president of the Sacramento Valley Region, was promoted to senior vice president and general manager of the Gas Supply Business Unit; Gordon R. Smith, vice president of finance and rates, was named vice president and chief financial officer, succeeding Skinner. Thomas W. High, vice president and corporate secretary, was named assistant to the chairman of the board. James K. Randolph, manager of PG&E;’s steam generation department, was elected vice president of power generation, succeeding Glynn.
