Mobley Scores Twice in Kennedy’s 12-7 Victory

ANAHEIM — Running back Ray Mobley scored two touchdowns, but it was Kennedy High School’s defense that made the difference Friday in a 12-7 nonleague victory over Cypress at Handel Stadium.

Kennedy twice stopped the Centurions on fourth down and short yardage in the fourth quarter.

Mobley, who rushed for 112 yards on 20 carries, opened the scoring in the second quarter by catching a six-yard pass from John Guthrie for a touchdown. The extra point was missed. Kennedy’s Wesley Morris set up the score by returning a Cypress fumble 60 yards to the Centurion 24.

Mobley added a two-yard touchdown run in the third quarter four plays after Lamont Jackson returned the second-half kickoff 52 yards to the Cypress 30-yard line.

Cypress made the score 12-7 with 4 minutes 40 seconds left in the third quarter when Aaron Martinez ran 41 yards around the left side for a touchdown. Martinez finished with 116 yards in 16 carries. The Centurions moved the ball throughout the fourth quarter, but could get no closer than the Kennedy 35-yard line.
