COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Miramontes’ Goal Lifts SCC Soccer Team

The Southern California College soccer team won its second game of the season with a 1-0 victory over host UC Santa Cruz Friday.
With both teams battling to defensive standoff, the only goal of the game came on SCC’s Carlos Miramontes’ penalty kick 15 minutes into the second half. SCC improves to 2-1.
In nonconference women’s volleyball:
Southern California 3, New Mexico Highlands 0--Krista Hoover and Leslie Lastrapes had eight kills for visiting SCC (5-3), which won, 15-7, 15-11, 15-7.
At the Cal State Northridge Women’s Volleyball Invitational:
Cal Poly San Luis Obispo 3, UC Irvine 1--Dana Chalais had 19 kills and Traci Webb had 52 assists for Irvine (0-1), which lost, 13-15, 16-14, 17-15, 15-7.
University of San Diego 3, Cal State Fullerton 0--Cary Baldwin had 14 kills for Fullerton (0-4), which lost, 15-9, 15-13, 17-15.
