Rating Flap: Director Ken Russell, actress Theresa Russell and producer Dan Ireland have written an open letter to the Motion Picture Assn. of America in protest of the NC-17 rating given to their film “Whore.” The film, starring Theresa Russell as a prostitute, looks into the dark side of the business. “How did you decide to rate this film NC-17 when other films dealing with the same subject matter have received an R?” the letter asks, citing “Pretty Woman” as an example. “Whore” is set to open in Los Angeles and New York on Oct. 4.
