Former Surgeon General C. Everett Koop said the public is “concerned and confused” about the AIDS hazard, even though there is “essentially no risk” of getting it from a doctor. Officials of the American Medical Assn., the Centers for Disease Control and the Society for Hospital Epidemiology of America joined Koop in arguing against mandatory testing of physicians or other stringent measures. “I have found that the public is both concerned and confused about the real risks of getting AIDS,” Koop said in Washington.
