VENTURA : Surfrider Chapter to Help Protect Shores
Local surfers, environmentalists and city officials are joining together in the new Ventura County chapter of the Surfrider Foundation to try to protect the Gold Coast.
The group will work to curb coastal pollution, ensure public beach access and preserve county shorelines, organizers said.
The group will meet at 7:30 p.m. today at Ventura City Hall, Room 202. Participants should park and enter at the rear of the building, organizers said.
Upcoming activities include participation in the annual beach cleanup sponsored by the Ventura Regional Sanitation District on Sept. 21 and a luau fund-raiser in October.
Ojai City Councilman Steve Olsen, who recently joined the organization, said he has been following the national Surfrider Foundation for years in the media. “Now that we have a local group, we can have a direct impact,†he said.
