Contractor Sought for Jail Addition
The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors took the first major step Tuesday toward expanding the Peter J. Pitchess Honor Rancho by beginning the search for a contractor.
The expansion, which would add 768 beds to the North Facility, doubling its size, was approved by the board last spring to ease crowding at the Central Jail in downtown Los Angeles.
Plans are to add four dormitories and a maximum-security wing, exercise yards, a kitchen and offices and to renovate some of the North Facility, including converting the locker room for male guards so it can be used by females.
