THOUSAND OAKS : Shotgun Fired in Fight Over Tools

An argument over allegedly stolen tools erupted into a brawl, during which two shotgun rounds were fired at a Thousand Oaks resident, the Ventura County Sheriff’s East Valley Station reported Tuesday.
David Guarino, 28, and Michael Harsha, 27, both of Thousand Oaks, were booked on suspicion of attempted murder, said Sheriff’s Detective Ernie Montagna. The victim, Karl Savokinas, 23, of Thousand Oaks, was treated at the scene for injuries sustained in the scuffle.
Detectives said Guarino and Harsha forcibly entered Savokinas’ residence on El Segundo Drive about 10:30 p.m. Monday and demanded tools that they alleged were stolen. When Savokinas denied stealing the tools, a fight broke out.
During the fight, Savokinas grabbed a .45-caliber handgun from Guarino, detectives said. Harsha then fired two rounds from a .12-gauge shotgun at the victim, but missed, according to a sheriff’s report.
The suspects retrieved the handgun and fled Savokinas’ residence. They were arrested shortly before midnight by a deputy sheriff while they were driving along a Thousand Oaks street.
