D+ / QUARTERBACKS: Fans in the upper deck at Anaheim Stadium have been asked to return Billy Joe Tolliver’s overthrows. Anthony Miller drops 70-yard John Friesz bomb.

C / RUNNING BACKS: It’s supposed to be a big secret, but on third down or when the Chargers need a boost, they will get the ball to Ronnie Harmon. Don’t tell anyone.

D / RECEIVERS: These guys may want to take up collection to get Marion Butts back in Charger uniform. If Chargers have to throw to win, they will also have to pray.

D / OFFENSIVE LINE: Team owner Alex Spanos doesn’t like Tolliver; you don’t think he’s paying these guys to get Tolliver clobbered? If he’s paying them to block, he’s getting ripped off.

C- / DEFENSIVE LINE: Take away Burt Grossman (injury) and Lee Williams (unhappiness) and you don’t have much until you get to the linebackers.

B / LINEBACKERS: Gary Plummer and Billy Ray Smith were sidelined with injuries. Had the Rams been consulted, they would have awarded Junior Seau and Henry Rolling the night off.

D / DEFENSIVE BACKS: At this rate, cornerback Donald Frank will be burned 20 times for touchdowns. That’s 4 exhibition contests, 16 regular-season games, and 0 playoff games.

C- / SPECIAL TEAMS: Tom Whelihan replaced an injured John Kidd. Whelihan worked as a punter for the Frankfurt Galaxy in the WLAF this year. He better not lose his passport.

I / COACHING: Incomplete. John Friesz is putting heat on Tolliver and Dan Henning will have to decide now if he will let Friesz compete for starting role.
