Wynton Marsalis

Regarding “Jazz Moves Uptown,” your story on jazz moving to classical halls (July 14):
Is this Wynton Marsalis? The same man who castigates Miles Davis for moving into electronic music and away from earlier jazz styles now asks: “Why does everything have to fit into this cliched view?”
Obviously, Marsalis has a double standard when he’s trying to win favor with the classical music crowd. His efforts at Lincoln Center are certainly welcome and overdue, but I look to the day when he is as wise and open-minded (about all popular music) as he is talented.
