HAWK EYES: An endangered bird other than the gnatcatcher figured prominently Thursday in the news. . . . A Municipal Court in Westminster jury began deliberating on whether two Newport Beach developers had allowed destruction of a red-tailed hawk’s nest. Defense attorney John R. Cogorno said his clients were unfairly accused by a “fanatical” environmentalist. Deputy Dist. Atty. Scott Scoville said evidence shows the nest of the rare bird was carelessly destroyed. . . . The jury may decide today.
