World IN BRIEF : INDIA : Suicide Was Assassin Suspect, Police Say

Police in Madras, India, said a Sri Lankan rebel who committed suicide was a suspect in the assassination of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. The suspect, identified by police only as Dixon, and a second man took cyanide and set off an explosion as police closed in on a house in Coimbatore, India. Both men, who died later in a hospital, were believed to be members of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Elam, who are suspected of masterminding the murder. Gandhi was killed by a suicide bomber on May 21.
