Three sheriff’s deputies fired from 10 to 15 shots at a narcotics suspect who confronted them with a gun when they attempted to serve him a warrant in a Long Beach apartment Monday evening, authorities said.
The suspect, Porfirio Avila, 22, was taken to St. Mary Medical Center in Long Beach, where he was undergoing surgery for multiple bullet wounds.
“The deputies made entry to the apartment and were attempting to serve a search warrant when he confronted them,” said Deputy Rafael Estrada. However, Estrada said, he did not know if Avila was named in the warrant, how the deputies entered or whether he would be arrested immediately.
