NASA began the countdown for the launch of space shuttle Atlantis from Kennedy Space Center in Florida as workers patched a cracked floor beam. Mike Leinbach, NASA test director, said the repair was routine and would not delay the liftoff. Atlantis is scheduled to blast off with a crew of five astronauts and a communications satellite Wednesday at 7:55 a.m. PDT.
