GAO Says Cable Prices Have Soared: Cable TV prices continue to rise faster than inflation, swelling more than 50% since they were deregulated in 1986, a congressional study says. The National Cable Television Assn. said the General Accounting Office study shows a slowdown in price increases. But the chairman of a House subcommittee considering controls on cable charges called the study results a “blistering, scalding indictment†of the industry.
