A 26-year-old Long Beach man shot in the head by an unknown assailant in Oxnard died of the gunshot wound Saturday night, authorities said.
Moises Silva Cerna, who was found unconscious at 2 a.m. Saturday in a parking lot near Wooley Road and C Street, was pronounced dead at St. John’s Regional Medical Center 20 hours later, Ventura County Deputy Coroner Craig Stevens said.
Oxnard police could find no motive for the shooting, but said it did not appear to involve gang violence. Lt. Gordon Hubbard said Sunday that Cerna’s killer was still at large.
Meanwhile, Mauro Torres Garcia, 43, of Santa Paula remained in critical condition Sunday at Ventura County Medical Center with a gunshot wound suffered in an unrelated shooting late Friday in Santa Paula.
