The timing is certainly right for this introduction to a new series of videocassettes based on live performances from “Shindig!,” the lively pop-rock TV show from the ‘60s. The Righteous Brothers’ recording of “Unchained Melody,” a Top 10 hit in 1965, was pushed back onto the charts last year because it was featured prominently in the box-office smash “Ghost.” The 30-minute black-and-white production (on videocassette and laser disc), however, is unflinchingly modest: eight songs performed on “Shindig!” by the duo, which was one of the earliest and most celebrated of the blue-eyed-soul entries. No extra elements from the show, nor any historical perspective.
