A 30-year-old bicyclist and his 26-year-old passenger, who was riding on the handlebars, were hospitalized late Thursday night after they were struck by a car as they made a left turn, police said.
The cyclist, Darin Day of Huntington Beach, was airlifted to UCI Medical Center in Orange where he remained in serious condition Friday, said hospital spokeswoman Fran Tardiff. His passenger, Tonya Fayat, also of Huntington Beach, was in good condition, Tardiff said.
Police said Day and Fayat were heading north on Beach Boulevard about 11 p.m. when they attempted to turn left onto Cypress Avenue and was struck by a car driven by Isami Murakami.
Murakami, 60, of Fountain Valley was question and released, and an investigation is continuing.
