Rene Arocha, a star pitcher for the Cuban national team, defected in Miami while he and his teammates were on their way back to Havana. The team checked into Miami International Airport Hotel late Wednesday night, but Arocha, 27, didn’t sleep in his room and never boarded the Trans Air Haiti flight back to Havana, police said.
The Cuban American National Foundation, a Miami exile group, announced that Arocha would appear at a news conference today.
