Little League officials have suspended the Bassett, Calif., senior (ages 13-15) division team charter after a bench-clearing brawl that involved 40 people and injured two during a game between Bassett and Hacienda Heights.
According to Dick Cianfrocca, a Little League administrator at the game, Hacienda Heights was winning, 5-2, when the catcher for Bassett took off his helmet and hit the batter across the face. As plate umpire Ernie Arriola tried to separate the two, he was hit with the bat, suffering a fractured skull.
