Arthur Thomas Fowler Jr.; Retired Fire Captain
Arthur Thomas Fowler Jr., a retired Los Angeles County Fire Department captain, has died at a Lancaster hospital. He was 73.
A longtime Lancaster resident, Fowler died Tuesday of cancer, his wife, Dorothy Fowler, said.
Born in Los Angeles, Fowler joined the Los Angeles County Fire Department in the early 1940s. He worked in Los Angeles, Newhall, Lake Hughes and Lancaster during his 28-year tenure, retiring in 1971.
Fowler was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lancaster.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years; daughters Terri Ansel of Lancaster, and Patricia Soderling and Jill Porter, both of Coeur D’Alene, Idaho; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A funeral is scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday at Murphy Mortuary, 154 E. Avenue I in Lancaster, which is handling the arrangements. Burial will follow at Joshua Memorial Park in Lancaster. Donations can be made in Fowler’s name to the Lancaster branch of the American Cancer Society or to the St. Vincent De Paul Society.
