Wright to Be Bolsa Grande Football Coach
Jim Wright, who coached football at West Covina High School last season, has been named coach at Bolsa Grande.
“I just took the job last week,†Wright said. “It’s a little late in the year, but we can’t worry about that.â€
West Covina was 4-6 under Wright last season. He coached at San Manuel High near Tucson, Ariz., the previous three years. His 1989 team was 12-1 and the state Division 3-A runner-up.
Wright, 45, replaces Bill Holst, who resigned after the 1990 season. Bolsa Grande was 3-7 last year and finished sixth in the Garden Grove League with a 2-5 record. The Matadors were 11-20-0 and 8-13-0 in league play in the three seasons Holst coached the team.
Despite the Matadors’ poor showing in 1990, Wright is optimistic about the coming season.
“I think this is a good opportunity, otherwise I wouldn’t have done it,†Wright said. “I think we have a chance to be pretty competitive.â€
