IRVINE — Buffy Rabbitt, a five-time All-American for UC Irvine in cross-country and track, has been selected as a third-team GTE Academic All-American.
Rabbitt, a Newport Harbor High School graduate, has a 3.43 grade-point average in psychology and comparative literature. She twice won the Big West Conference cross-country title, finished fourth in the NCAA championships last fall, won four conference track titles and finished 10th in the 3,000 meters last month at the NCAA Track and Field Championships.
Rabbitt set a school record in the 3,000 with a time of 9 minutes 11.99 seconds at the TAC Championships June 15. The time qualified her for the World University Games, which will be held in July in England and for the U.S. Olympic Trials next year.
