TAFT, Calif. — A mother and son have been ordered to stand trial on charges of switching seats after a fatal car accident so the son would not be charged with drunken driving.
David McCan, 36, was bound over to Superior Court for arraignment July 3 on three felonies and three misdemeanor charges. Ada Beebe, 54, was ordered to appear July 8 in South Kern Municipal Court in Taft for a trial on one misdemeanor count of giving false information to an officer. McCan faces charges including felony drunken driving, vehicular manslaughter and hit-and-run.
McCan and Beebe were charged after a witness told police of the swap. Their car hit an all-terrain vehicle, killing Valerie Sue Gorham, 27, of Fellows.
