A tree fell on a minivan near the Mountain High Ski resort Sunday, killing three of the vehicle’s occupants, California Highway Patrol officials said.
A woman between 25 and 30 and a 10-year-old boy were pronounced dead at the scene on California 2, near its intersection with Big Pine Highway, said CHP Officer Calvin Aubrey.
An 11-month-old child died while being flown to Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena, he said, adding that three others were treated at Huntington for unspecified moderate injuries.
Identities of the victims were not immediately available.
Investigators have not determined what caused the tree to fall in the accident, which occurred at 6:48 p.m., Aubrey said.
