JAPAN: Japan’s economy expanded a robust 5.7% last fiscal year, but economists said slower growth this year is all but certain. The nation’s gross national product, which measures output in goods and services, rose a real 5.7% in the fiscal year to March 31, against an unrevised 4.8% rise for the previous year, the Economic Planning Agency said. Economists said the latest increase was due to healthy growth in the economy’s two mainstays, domestic demand and capital spending. But most analysts expect slower growth in the 1991-92 fiscal year ending next March, despite a strong first-quarter data.
