In France, they’re calling the 20th Century Fox “Robin Hood” starring Patrick Bergin--which was shown on TV here, but in theaters in Europe--”Robin des Bois,” or “Robin of the Forest.”
Spike Lee’s “Jungle Fever” is not translated. But ads include the line, “La Fievre est Contagieuse!” (“The Fever Is Contagious!”).
Paul Mazursky’s “Scenes From a Mall” wasn’t so fortunate. Its clever spin on the title of Ingmar Bergman’s “Scenes From a Marriage” is lost in the translation. En francais , “Scenes From a Mall” becomes: “Scenes de Menage dans un Centre Commercial” or “Marital Scenes in a Commercial Center.”
The one we’re still trying to figure out, however, is a film that retained an English title but changed the location: Steve Martin’s “L.A. Story” becomes “Beverly Hills Story” in France.
