The Soviets beat the United States, 15-10, 15-4, 15-5, in their first match in the World League volleyball tournament in Moscow.
The second match between the two teams will be played Sunday.
The Soviet team is the leader of Group B in the tournament with a 6-1 record, followed by Italy (4-3) and the United States (0-3).
