Pavin 2nd at U.S. Open; 2 From Area Miss Cut

Former UCLA golfer Corey Pavin fired a five-under-par 67 Friday in the second round of the 91st U.S. Open at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minn., and trails tournament leader Payne Stewart by one stroke heading into today’s third round.
Pavin, a graduate of Oxnard High who maintains a home in Camarillo, has a two-day total of 138, tying him with Scott Simpson and Nolan Henke.
Two other local players, Brad Sherfy and Louie Garcia, both of Camarillo, failed to make the cut. Sherfy shot an even-par 72 for a two-day total of 150, and Garcia finished at 160 after a six-over-par 78. The cutoff was 147.
