Two New Mexico teen-agers were charged with murder and robbery Friday in the death of a woman stabbed at a Zuma Beach restroom.
The filing of the charges in Malibu Municipal Court triggered extradition proceedings against the two youths, both in the custody of juvenile authorities in New Mexico. The defendants, Michael Loretto, 17, and Guillermo Bustos, 16, are accused in the May 28 slaying of Jacqueline Kirkham, 43, of Northridge. A third youth’s role in Kirkham’s death is still under investigation, prosecutors said.
Loretto and Bustos were charged with murder and second-degree robbery. They were charged with the robbery count for allegedly stealing Kirkham’s car, a Nissan 240SX. Deputy Dist. Atty. Harvey Giss also filed special circumstance charges against the two, alleging they killed Kirkham while lying in wait and during commission of a robbery.
